Vision

AI-supported robotics for a competitive and sustainable future

We see a future in which artificial intelligence and robotics merge seamlessly to create innovative solutions for the challenges of our time. The intelligent combination of data, algorithms and robotic systems creates flexible, adaptable and efficient applications that increase productivity, make everyday work easier and open up new opportunities in all industries.

Mission

RoX - The ecosystem for the entire life cycle of AI-based robotics

We are creating a decentralized data and services ecosystem that enables the development, deployment and continuous improvement of advanced AI-powered robotic systems throughout their lifecycle. By promoting cooperation and collaboration between all stakeholders, we ensure the secure and efficient exchange of data and thus enable the emergence of innovative robotics solutions for a competitive and sustainable economy in Germany and Europe. RoX emphasizes data sovereignty, sustainability and energy efficiency and cooperates closely with European initiatives such as Manufacturing-X and 8ra.

Partner

The project brings together leading industrial companies and scientific institutions with a strong application and product focus in the field of digital data and service ecosystems and robotics. ABB is supported in the coordination by Siemens AG, the German Aerospace Center and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, represented by Fraunhofer IPA. The partners of the RoX consortium are:

Related initiatives

The project is networked with national and European initiatives, such as Manufacturing-X, which aims to establish an international, interoperable data ecosystem, or 8ra, for the establishment of a multi-provider cloud edge continuum. Both initiatives are aimed at digital innovations for greater resilience, sustainability and competitive strength in practical applications.

RoX is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag with DARP funds. Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.

8ra is the central digital initiative for Europe. At the heart of the initiative is the IPCEI Cloud, which is driven by more than 100 companies and research institutions from 12 EU Member States to build the world's first multi-provider cloud-edge continuum. The main goal is to create a completely new decentralized software infrastructure for the advanced use of computing resources from the cloud to the edge. This novel open ecosystem, operated by multiple providers, will reduce both technological dependencies and lock-in effects. It will also enable novel and innovative data-driven business models, e.g. related to Artificial Intelligence and IIoT (Industrial-Internet-of-Things), for a wide range of applications in industries such as manufacturing, mobility, energy and tourism. The initiative will implement projects with a volume of several billion euros. Further information can be found at www.8ra.com.
